Stephanie Chose Life!

“I got an ultrasound, it’s 13 weeks and it’s a girl.”

Good news! We were able to help Stephanie avoid the forced abortion her parents scheduled for her!

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers for “Stephanie”. We wanted to follow up with you all on this situation. Last week, we worked with LoveLife to mobilize a team on the sidewalks in Denver and witnessed a young girl and her mom enter a surgical abortion clinic. Come to find out, that young girl was indeed Stephanie, but the abortion clinic declined to perform the abortion because we tipped them off that a 14 year old may be coming in for a forced abortion. At the time, we didn’t know whether or not she had had the abortion because we had lost all contact with her (her parents took away her devices).

On Sunday morning, Stephanie was able to reach back out to our CEO Nathan Berning and let him know that she had not had the abortion yet. Her parents had attempted to take her to get the abortion on Saturday but all of the clinics were closed, so they scheduled another appointment at a different clinic for Monday.

At this point, Nathan flew down to CO to try and find Stephanie, and to work with LoveLife organizing a team that would be present at the abortion clinics on Monday. We also assembled a team of CO attorneys on Stephanie’s behalf. They prepared a cease and desist letter that we distributed to all of the surgical abortion clinics in Denver, alerting them to the fact that she was being forced against her will to have an abortion. A tip led us to the hotel that her parents were staying with her at, and we visually confirmed that they were staying at the hotel.

The hotel was near several surgical abortion clinics. We weren’t sure which clinic they would take her to, so we made sure that there were sidewalk advocates at all of them on Monday morning, and that all of the clinics received the letter drafted by the attorney team on Stephanie’s behalf.

Come Monday, Nathan happened to be serving an abortion clinic near the hotel when he saw a young girl enter the lobby that matched Stephanie’s description. She arrived right before noon, and we had been tipped off that her abortion appointment was scheduled for noon. Nathan handed the letter to the clinic staff, and then they immediately called her to one of the back rooms of the abortion clinic. About 20 minutes later, the facility’s security team confronted Nathan in the lobby. Nathan explained that the clinic couldn’t perform the abortion because it was against her will and therefore illegal, as the letter explained. He told them that Stephanie had requested a lawyer and that her lawyer was on the way to the clinic.

Nathan was unable to speak directly with Stephanie, but shortly after, he watched her exit the clinic. Later, we received confirmation from Stephanie that the clinic did not perform the abortion after receiving the cease and desist letter. Therefore, we were successful at preventing this forced abortion!

Later, we received confirmation from Stephanie that she was reunited with her boyfriend and they got an ultrasound yesterday. She is 13 weeks and having a girl! As of now, we have let Stephanie know that we are still here to support her in any way we can. We do not think that Stephanie is completely in the clear, especially since her father allegedly threatened to perform the abortion himself if she didn’t get it. So we will be continuing to monitor the situation and make sure that Stephanie and her 13 week baby have the support they need.

Our team is so proud of Stephanie. She was so brave and stood up for herself and her baby! It is rare that any young mom has the courage to do what she did, and at such a young age too!

To all of Stephanie’s incredible supporters: Thank you for helping us defend her and her baby from abortion! This work would not be possible without you. A special thanks to the government officials, attorneys, law enforcement officers, and public figures that helped save Stephanie and her baby!
